On February 18th eleven brothers joined over 700 other students in the annual Dance Blue dance marathon in Memorial Coliseum. For 24 hours these brothers stood, sang, and danced without rest to benefit UK pediatric oncology. As a chapter, we raised over $3,500 dollars, contributing to the nearly $650,000 total raised for this worthy cause.
While the eleven brothers danced, the rest of the chapter made sure to show them just how much we supported them. For the entire 24 hours brothers and associates cheered from the stands, proudly toting giant letters and dancing along with those on the floor. Seeing fellow brothers dance tirelessly has inspired the rest of the chapter to raise the ante for next year.
Many of the brothers who were not dancing took a brief break from supporting those dancing at Memorial to take part in the annual Polar Plunge event to benefit Special Olympics. At eight in the morning brothers drove out to Texas Roadhouse to help with set up and registration.
After volunteering eighteen brothers donned homemade Mario Karts costumes, with everyone from Mario to Princess Peach represented, and plunged into 40 degree water. At the end of the day brothers contributed over 120 hours of service and raised over $3,000 to support our national philanthropy.
The brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa have wasted no time in making sure 2011 will be a year to remember in our chapter. All fall semester active brothers put in the work in the classroom and this work showed when the grade report was released.
